NGO Mobile App Development in India
Android and iOS apps for field teams, volunteers and donors, designed for cheap phones, patchy signal and non-technical users.
This page covers mobile apps for non-profits in India. The most useful ones are not donor apps. They are tools for field workers who collect data in villages and wards, and for volunteers who need schedules and check-ins. We build with Flutter or React Native, one codebase for Android and iOS.
Think about who holds the phone. A health worker on a four-year-old Android with 2 GB of storage and no network for half the day has different needs from a donor in a city. Design for the first person and the app will also work for the second.
What NGOs need from a mobile app
Offline-first data entry
Surveys, attendance and distribution lists must be saved on the phone and synced later. Losing a day of entries because the network dropped is the quickest way to lose staff trust.
Simple language and icons
Field users may be more comfortable in Marathi or Hindi than English, and some read slowly. Large buttons, few steps and icon support cut errors and training time.
Small size and low battery use
Budget phones fill up fast. A small app that starts quickly and avoids constant background location keeps the phone usable through the day.
Proof of fieldwork
Funders ask for evidence that a camp or visit took place. Time-stamped photos and location tags, with consent, make that proof routine rather than a manual task.
What we build for NGO mobile apps
Field data collection app
Custom forms for surveys, household visits or stock distribution with photo capture and offline storage. Entries sync to a web dashboard when signal returns, with conflict checks for duplicates.
Volunteer app
Browse events, accept a shift, check in with a QR code and log hours. Reminders go out by push notification, and a certificate of participation can be generated on completion.
Donor and supporter app
For NGOs with a regular giving base: monthly UPI donations, impact updates and a giving history. Worth building only if donors will open it more than once a quarter.
Beneficiary helpline app
A simple request and status screen for people who need help, with a call-back option. It suits programmes like legal aid, health referrals or scholarship queries.
What it costs
The mobile app anchor covers an MVP with a core flow, in about 10-12 weeks. Offline sync, number of languages, user roles and the backend you may need are cost drivers, quoted in writing after a discovery call.
Questions we get asked
Should an NGO build for Android only first?
Often yes. Most field staff and beneficiaries in India use Android, so launching there first saves cost and time. With Flutter or React Native, adding iPhone later is easier. Ask your team what phones they actually carry before deciding.
Can the app work with no internet for several days?
Yes, if designed offline-first. Data stays on the phone and syncs when a connection returns. Storage limits, photo sizes and sync conflicts need planning, and we test on low-end Android devices to confirm it holds up in real conditions.
How do we protect beneficiary photos and details?
By collecting only what you need, taking consent, encrypting stored data and limiting who can view it. Rules about children's data and sensitive records are serious, so confirm your policy with your adviser and your funder's conditions.
Who pays for Play Store and maintenance?
The developer account and any store fees are yours, and we help set it up under your NGO's name. After the free first month of support, a care plan or per-change work covers updates for new Android versions.
