Fitness Mobile App Development for Gyms, Studios and Trainers

Your own branded Android and iOS app for bookings, workouts, check-ins and renewals, built from one codebase.

This page covers mobile app development for fitness businesses and trainers: gym chains, studios, online coaches and wellness brands that want members to open their own app daily. We build with Flutter or React Native so Android and iOS share one codebase.

An app only helps if it gets opened. The ones that survive do one daily job well: show today's class, log a workout, or hold the member's pass. Apps that try to be a social network, a diet planner and a shop at launch usually end up unused and expensive.

What fitness apps need to earn a place on the phone

01

A daily-use core

Pick one habit: booking a class, logging sets or checking in. Everything else should support that, not compete with it.

02

Reliable reminders

Class reminders, renewal notices and streak nudges bring members back. They must respect quiet hours and let users turn categories off, or people mute them.

03

Works in a basement gym

Gym floors have poor signal. Workout logging and passes should open instantly from stored data and sync later.

04

Careful with health data

Weight, injuries and heart-rate data are personal. Collect only what you need, explain it plainly, and let members delete their account. Confirm your obligations with your own adviser.

What we build for fitness mobile apps

01

Member app

Plans, class booking and cancellation, digital pass with QR check-in, payment and renewal, and notifications. Link-out to WhatsApp for the front desk.

02

Workout and progress log

Programmes assigned by a trainer, set and rep logging, notes and simple progress charts. It records what members enter and makes no medical claims.

03

Trainer app

Today's classes, attendance marking, client notes and message threads, with access limited to the trainer's own clients.

04

Wearable and online classes

Optional links to step or heart-rate data via phone health services, and live or recorded class links. Added only if you have a clear use for the data.

When this is the wrong choice. If you only need class timings and enquiries, a mobile-friendly website is cheaper and easier to keep current. If you have no staff time to manage content and reminders, an app will go stale quickly. Also hold off if you do not yet have a steady member base, since a small audience gives you little feedback on whether the app works.

What it costs

Starts at ₹2,00,000 (excl. GST) for a mobile app

An MVP typically takes 10-12 weeks. Payments, wearable links, video content and the number of user roles change the quote, which is fixed in writing after a discovery call.

Questions we get asked

Which fitness app features should the first version include?

Start with login, class booking, digital pass and renewal payment. Add workout logging only if your trainers will assign programmes. A smaller first release reaches the Play Store sooner, and real member behaviour shows what to build next.

Can the app connect to a smartwatch or step counter?

It can read data through phone health services such as Google Health Connect or Apple Health, with the member's permission. Support varies by device and OS version. We include it only when you will use the data meaningfully.

Will the app need Play Store and App Store approval?

Yes. Both stores review new apps, and Apple is generally stricter on health claims and account deletion. We prepare listings, privacy details and test accounts, and plan review time into the schedule. We cannot control review outcomes.

Is a mobile app better than a member portal on the website?

For daily use, an app wins through notifications and quick access. For occasional tasks such as renewals, a web portal is enough and cheaper. Many clients launch the web app first and add a mobile app once members ask.
