Fitness app development for gyms, studios and coaches
Member apps with workout plans, class booking, renewals and wearable data, plus the admin side your front desk needs. For gym owners, trainers and wellness brands.
A fitness app earns its place in one of two ways. It either helps a gym or studio keep members who would otherwise drift away, or it gives a coach a paid product that scales beyond one-to-one sessions. The features follow from which of these you are. The trap is building a general tracker that competes with free apps already on every phone.
We build around your business model: membership gyms with renewals and entry control, studios with class slots and waitlists, and coaches selling plans or subscriptions. Payments run on UPI and autopay, which is how Indian members actually pay, and the front desk gets one panel to manage it all. Staff stop chasing payments by phone.
What fitness businesses struggle with
Members who forget to renew
Renewals handled by calls and notebooks leak revenue. Automatic reminders, UPI autopay mandates and a visible expiry date in the app reduce the chasing your staff do each month.
Class slots and no-shows
A full class with three no-shows wastes space and annoys people on the waitlist. Booking cut-offs, waitlist promotion and a small cancellation rule fix most of it.
Plans that nobody follows
Long PDF workout plans get ignored. In-app plans with today's session, short exercise videos and a simple log keep members coming back, and trainers can see who has gone quiet.
Wearable data that confuses more than helps
Pulling in steps and heart rate is easy, interpreting it is not. We show what the data source gives, leave health judgement to your trainers and avoid medical-sounding claims.
Fitness app development services
Member app
Profile, membership status, class booking, workout of the day, progress photos and payments in one Android and iPhone app built with Flutter. Local-language labels can be added.
Workout plan builder
Trainers assemble plans from an exercise library with sets, reps, rest and video links, then assign them to members or groups. Members tick off sessions and log weights.
Memberships and payments
Plans with freeze, upgrade and pro-rata rules, UPI autopay and card payments through Razorpay, GST invoices and a clear ledger for the front desk.
Wearable and phone sensor sync
Steps, workouts and heart rate from Apple Health and Health Connect on Android, shown as trends. We handle permissions properly and keep the data private to the member and their trainer.
Check-in and access
QR check-in from the app, with an optional link to turnstile or biometric devices if your hardware has an API. We confirm device compatibility before promising it.
Admin and trainer panel
A web dashboard for leads, renewals due, attendance, class schedules, trainer notes and campaigns by push notification or WhatsApp.
How a fitness app project runs
Discover
We watch how a day runs at your gym or studio: sign-ups, renewals, classes and complaints. We list the revenue leaks the app should plug first.
Define
We rank features into must-have for version one and later, and fix scope and quote. Payment rules, freezes and refunds are written down exactly.
Design
Screens are designed for use between sets, with large buttons and one-hand reach. Your brand colours and class names are used throughout.
Build
We build the member app and admin panel together, test on common Android phones, and let your staff run mock days before launch.
Ship & extend
We help with Play Store and App Store listings and onboarding of existing members. One month of support follows, and new features come as scoped extras.
What it costs
A member app with an admin panel and payments sits above the entry price, so we give a fixed quote after a discovery call. Payment gateway fees, video hosting and store accounts are separate.
- Number of locations and trainers
- Subscription and autopay complexity
- Wearable and device integrations
- Video content and live classes
- Languages and custom branding
All prices exclude 18% GST. See also website costs and app costs.
Questions we get asked
Can members pay monthly by UPI autopay?
Yes, through Razorpay or a similar gateway that supports UPI autopay mandates. The member approves once, and renewals are charged on schedule. Failed debits trigger reminders. Mandate rules and limits are set by the banks and the gateway, which we explain during scoping.
Do you connect to wearables?
We can read steps, workouts and heart rate from Apple Health and Android Health Connect with the member's permission. Branded device clouds from specific watch makers vary in access. We check each one in discovery before including it in the scope.
Does the app give health or medical advice?
No. It delivers plans your trainers write and records what members log. We avoid medical claims in the product and recommend a clear disclaimer, so members with health conditions consult their doctor. Your trainers remain responsible for the plans they assign.
Can we run live classes in the app?
Yes, using a managed live video service, with booking, reminders and replays. Live video adds running cost per minute, so we estimate it with your class sizes. Many studios start with pre-recorded videos and add live later.
Can the app connect to our entry turnstile?
Sometimes. It depends on whether the hardware vendor provides an API or SDK. We ask for the model details in discovery and test before committing. Where no integration exists, QR check-in with a front-desk scanner screen is the fallback.
How do we get existing members onto the app?
We import your member list with plan dates, then members sign in with an OTP on their phone number. Staff get a printable QR and a WhatsApp message template for the rollout week. We help run this during launch.
