Grocery Mobile App Development for Android and iOS

A customer app, and when needed a rider app, that makes the weekly shop a two-tap reorder and keeps your store stock honest.

This page covers grocery mobile app development: a customer app for repeat shoppers, plus an optional rider app and a store panel. We build with Flutter or React Native, so one codebase serves Android and iOS. Android comes first in practice, since most of your shoppers will be on it. We keep the scope realistic for a first launch.

A grocery app earns its place through repeat behaviour. The same family buys milk, atta, onions and detergent every week. If your reorder flow is slower than a WhatsApp message, people will stay on WhatsApp. The app has to beat that, or it is just an icon nobody opens. Staff can then see the whole order at a glance.

What grocery businesses need from a mobile app

01

Reorder before browse

Opening the app should show last orders and a usual basket. A shopper who can repeat a basket in two taps will return every week.

02

Stock that matches the shelf

Nothing annoys a shopper more than an app that sells something the store ran out of. The app needs near-live stock from the store, or a clear way for staff to mark items unavailable.

03

Payment choices Indian shoppers expect

UPI is the default, cash on delivery is still common, and wallets or saved cards are optional extras. COD needs a limit and rider-side confirmation of cash collected.

04

Notifications that are useful

Order accepted, substitution request, rider nearby and delivered are the messages that matter. Promotional pushes should be rare and tied to something the shopper actually buys.

What we build for grocery apps

01

Customer app with usual basket

Search, categories, saved lists, delivery address and slot picker, with a home screen built around reordering. Product photos load small and fast for low-end phones.

02

Rider app with COD tracking

Assigned deliveries in order, call and navigation buttons, and a one-tap record of cash or UPI collected. Day-end summary shows each rider's total against the orders.

03

Store panel for stock and offers

A browser panel where staff update stock, prices, offers and substitutions. Changes reach the app within minutes, and low-stock items can be hidden automatically.

04

Store submission and release

We prepare Play Store and App Store listings, privacy details and review responses. A one-month support window follows launch for fixes found by real shoppers.

When this is the wrong choice. If you have one store and fewer than a few hundred regular customers, a website with WhatsApp ordering is usually enough for now. Build the app when repeat volume justifies it.

What it costs

Mobile app starts at ₹2,00,000 (excl. GST)

Rider app, store panel, live inventory sync and number of stores add to the base. An MVP typically takes 10 to 12 weeks, quoted in writing after a discovery call.

Questions we get asked

Should a grocery app launch on Android first?

Usually yes. Most grocery shoppers in India use Android, often on mid-range or budget phones. With Flutter or React Native we can ship iOS from the same codebase, so you can add it once Android usage proves the model.

How does the app know what is in stock?

Either the store panel updates stock manually, or we sync with your billing or inventory software where it exposes data. Manual updates are cheaper to start. Sync is better once you have many items and several staff.

Can we run cash on delivery safely?

Yes, with controls in place. You can cap the COD order value, require phone verification for new users and make riders confirm cash collected inside the app. Repeated failed deliveries can move an account to prepaid-only until it is reviewed by your team.

Will we need a separate app for riders?

If you use your own riders, a simple rider app helps with order lists, navigation and cash tracking. If you use a third-party delivery service, you may only need an order hand-off integration. We decide this in discovery.
