Grocery Web App Development for Order and Store Operations
Browser-based tools for the people who run your grocery business: order desk, pickers, packers, dispatch and the owner.
This page is about grocery web app development for the back-of-house side of a store: the screens your staff open all day. Think order desk, picking list, packing check, delivery assignment and daily closing. These run in a browser on a shop counter PC or a cheap tablet, so there is nothing to install.
The customer-facing side can be a website, WhatsApp or an app. The web app is what stops orders from living in notebooks, WhatsApp groups and one person's memory. It becomes the single place where an order is received, picked, packed, dispatched and paid. Staff learn it quickly because it mirrors the steps they already follow on the shop floor.
What grocery operations need from a web app
One order queue across channels
Orders arrive by phone, WhatsApp, website and walk-in. Staff need them in one list with status, so nothing is missed at the Sunday morning peak.
Picking that matches shelf layout
A picker walking the aisles wants items grouped by aisle or rack, not in the order the customer typed them. Substitutions and out-of-stock calls need a quick, recorded decision.
Delivery slots with a cut-off
A promise of a 6 to 8 pm slot only works if the system closes the slot when capacity is full. Riders need a manifest of addresses and amounts to collect.
Cash and UPI reconciliation
Cash on delivery needs to be matched to each rider at day end, along with UPI payments received. The owner wants to see mismatches without opening five sheets.
What we build for grocery teams
Order desk and status board
Every order gets a number, source and status from received to delivered. Edits after confirmation are logged, so a changed quantity has a name and time against it.
Picker and packer screens
Pick lists sorted by aisle, with tick-off, substitute and short-supply buttons that work on a small tablet. A final packing check compares what was picked with what was billed.
Slot and rider manager
Configure slots, capacity and cut-off per area, then assign orders to riders. Riders see a simple list with call and map buttons and mark each drop as paid or pending.
Owner dashboard and GST-ready exports
Daily sales, top items, wastage notes and rider cash summary on one screen. Export invoices and sales data in a format your accountant can use for GST filing.
What it costs
Cost moves with the number of user roles, integration with your billing or inventory software and how many stores share the system. A fixed written quote follows a free discovery call.
Questions we get asked
Will the web app work with our existing billing software?
Often yes, if the billing tool offers an export, database access or an API. We check this in discovery. If it offers none, we can run the app alongside it and reconcile through daily file import, though that is slower and quoted separately.
Can pickers use it on a phone in the store?
Yes. The picker screen is designed for a small phone or tablet in the browser, with large tap targets. It does not need installation, and it works on Wi-Fi inside the store where mobile signal is often weak.
How do we handle items that are out of stock mid-order?
The picker flags the item as short and chooses a substitute from a pre-set list, or marks it removed. The customer is notified, and the bill is revised with the change logged, which reduces disputes at the door.
Can one web app run several stores?
Yes. Each store has its own stock, staff logins and delivery slots, while the owner sees combined figures on one dashboard. A shared central catalogue with store-level price overrides is common and keeps item names consistent across all branches.
