Construction Mobile App Development for Site Teams

Android and iOS apps that site supervisors and engineers actually use: quick entries, photos, attendance and material receipts that sync when signal returns.

This page covers construction mobile app development: apps used on site by supervisors, engineers, store keepers and project managers. The aim is to capture what happens on the ground at the moment it happens, instead of reconstructing it from memory in the evening. We build apps for supervisors, store keepers and engineers, with offline entry and photos at the centre of every screen.

Site conditions shape every decision. Phones are often low-end Android, hands are dusty, signal drops inside structures, and supervisors have little patience for forms. An app that needs ten taps to log a delivery will be abandoned in a week, so the design has to be short and forgiving. We test on real entry-level phones before launch and train site staff during the first month after launch.

What site teams need from a mobile app

01

Offline-first entry

Reports, photos and counts must save on the phone and upload later. Losing a day's entries because the network dropped will end adoption.

02

Labour attendance without paperwork

Contract labour is counted by gang and trade, often across several contractors. The app should record headcount per contractor quickly, with a location stamp.

03

Photos that mean something

A photo is useful when it carries the date, site, activity and who took it. Tagged photos settle disputes about progress and quality later.

04

Light enough for old phones

Many supervisors use entry-level Android devices with little storage. The app must start fast, use small images and avoid heavy animations.

What we build for site use

01

Daily progress report

A short form by activity, with quantities, labour and weather delays, plus photos. Entries save offline and appear on the head office dashboard once synced.

02

Attendance and gang count

Supervisors mark labour by contractor and trade at the gate or work front. Our work on Staffly, an HRMS with an attendance app, informs how we handle check-ins.

03

Material receipt and issue

Store keepers record deliveries against the purchase order with a photo of the challan. Mismatches are flagged for the purchase team.

04

Snag and safety checklists

Walk-through lists with photos and assigned owners, closed out one by one. Open items stay visible until someone resolves them.

When this is the wrong choice. If you mainly need desk-side approvals and billing, a web app is cheaper and enough. Do not build a native app for a team of five supervisors on one site, a simple shared form may serve for now.

What it costs

Starts at ₹2,00,000 (excl. GST)

This is the mobile app anchor, with an MVP typically taking 10-12 weeks. Offline sync, photo handling and the number of user roles drive the final quote.

Questions we get asked

Can the app work fully offline on site?

Yes, for core entries such as reports, counts and photos. Data is stored on the phone and uploaded when a connection returns. Features that need live data, such as seeing another site's totals, still require a network. A short field trial on one live site shows what needs simplifying.

Which phones should a site app support?

Plan for entry-level Android first, since that is what most supervisors carry. We test on low-memory devices and keep image sizes small. An iOS version can follow for managers who use iPhones, from the same codebase. Testing on the oldest phone your supervisors use catches most problems.

Can the app record geo-tagged attendance?

It can stamp location on each attendance entry. Whether that is appropriate depends on your policy and on how labour and contractors accept it. Confirm privacy and labour-law handling with your own adviser before enforcing it.

Do we need an app for every site or one for all?

One app serves all sites. Users are assigned to projects, and each sees only theirs. Head office roles can switch between projects. This keeps one codebase to maintain and one version for everyone to install. Installation is by Play Store link or a private install file, whichever suits your team.
