Taxi Booking App Development for Riders and Drivers
Rider and driver apps with live tracking, fare logic and admin control, scoped for a city or route network you can actually run.
This page covers taxi booking app development: a rider app, a driver app and an admin panel, built with Flutter or React Native on one codebase per app. We aim for a version you can launch in a city or on a corridor, not a clone of a national platform. You own the source code after delivery.
Two apps means two sets of problems. Riders want a fare they trust and a car that turns up. Drivers want trips that make sense, honest earnings and an app that does not drain a budget phone. Getting the driver side right usually decides whether the service works. Both need honest testing.
What a taxi app must get right
Fare logic that holds up
Base fare, per-km and per-minute rates, night charges, tolls and cancellation fees all need rules. The rider should see the estimate before booking, and the final fare must follow from it.
Live tracking that does not drain phones
Driver location updates every few seconds eat battery and data. Budget Android phones also stop background apps, so tracking needs careful design and testing on real devices.
Dispatch and matching
Nearest driver is not always the right driver. Matching has to consider acceptance, vehicle type, airport queues and what to do when nobody accepts.
Safety and trust features
Share-trip link, SOS contact, driver details and rating help riders feel safe, especially at night. What you must provide in law depends on your state and licence, so confirm with your adviser.
What we build for taxi services
Rider app
Pickup and drop with map search, fare estimate by vehicle type, booking now or later, live trip tracking and receipts. Payment by UPI, card through a gateway, or cash to the driver.
Driver app
Online and offline toggle, trip requests with accept timers, navigation hand-off, earnings by day and a trip history. Built to run acceptably on low-memory Android phones.
Airport and outstation modes
Fixed-fare airport zones, pre-booked outstation trips with advance payment, return fare options and driver allowance rules. These modes carry the higher-value trips.
Admin panel
Live trip map, driver onboarding with document checks, fare and zone settings, payouts and complaint handling. Reports show trips, cancellations and earnings by driver.
What it costs
A rider app, driver app and admin panel together cost more than one app, and live maps are billed by the provider on usage. An MVP typically takes 10 to 12 weeks, quoted in writing after discovery.
Questions we get asked
Can you build an Ola or Uber style app?
We build rider, driver and admin apps with the core booking flow. A scoped city launch is realistic. Matching the scale, pricing engines and funding of national platforms is not, and we will tell you plainly what an MVP can and cannot do.
Who pays for Google Maps usage?
You do, directly to the maps provider, based on usage. Costs grow with trips, searches and tracking frequency. We design the app to limit unnecessary map calls and give you a rough monthly estimate during discovery.
What licences does a taxi app need?
Rules for aggregators and taxi operators differ by state and change over time. We do not give legal advice. Check permit, licence and data requirements with your own adviser before launch, and we will build the features they require.
How do you get drivers onboard the app?
The admin panel supports driver sign-up with document upload and approval. Getting drivers is a business task, usually through your own fleet or local owners. We can help set up referral codes and a simple onboarding guide for drivers.
