Travel & Tourism Ecommerce Website Development
Online stores that sell fixed-price tours, activity tickets, gift vouchers and travel merchandise with proper payments and tax invoices.
This page covers ecommerce sites for travel businesses that sell something with a fixed price and quantity: a day tour, a trek slot, a water-park ticket, a forex card referral kit or a luggage and gear range. The checkout is the product here, not an enquiry form.
Travel is a strange fit for standard shop software, because the item has a date, a seat limit and often a cancellation window. We start by deciding what a visitor is actually buying, then shape the catalogue, stock and payment rules around that.
What travel sellers need from an online store
Date-based products
A sunrise trek on Saturday is a different item from the same trek on Sunday, each with its own stock. Standard stores treat stock as one number, so date and slot handling has to be added.
Digital delivery of tickets
After payment the buyer needs a ticket or voucher with a QR code, by email and WhatsApp. Staff at the gate must be able to scan it and mark it used.
Part payment and balance
Many Indian travellers pay a deposit online and the rest later. The store should record both and show the open balance against the order.
Clear cancellation and refund rules
Refund windows differ by product and supplier. The terms must be shown before payment and applied the same way every time, since refund disputes with customers cost more than lost sales.
What we build for travel ecommerce
Bookable product catalogue
Tours and tickets with calendars, slot limits, group-size pricing and add-ons such as meals or gear rental. Sold-out dates grey out automatically so no one pays for a seat that is gone.
Checkout with UPI and cards
Razorpay or a similar gateway handles UPI, cards and netbanking, with GST invoices generated per order. Failed or abandoned payments release the held seat after a short time.
Gift vouchers and promo codes
Sell vouchers for a trip or a value amount, with expiry dates and single-use codes. Corporate buyers can order in bulk against a single invoice.
Travel gear shop
For sellers of trekking gear, luggage or souvenirs, a regular product store with variants, COD where you want it and courier tracking. It can sit beside the tours on one site.
What it costs
The ecommerce anchor covers a standard store with catalogue, checkout and orders. Date-slot booking, voucher logic and ticket scanning go beyond a standard store, so they are quoted in writing after a discovery call.
Questions we get asked
Can we sell the same tour on our site and on marketplaces?
Yes, but stock must stay in sync or you will oversell. We can build a single inventory that your site reads from, and add marketplace sync only if a platform offers an API. Without sync, assign fixed quotas to each channel.
How are GST invoices handled for tour sales?
The store issues an invoice for each order with your GSTIN and the rate you configure. The correct rate for tour packages, activities or ticket resale depends on your business model, so confirm it with your chartered accountant before launch.
What happens when a tour is cancelled for weather?
You mark the date as cancelled and the system lists affected orders. You then choose refund, voucher credit or reschedule per order. The store applies your stated terms, so staff are not sending individual messages to every buyer.
Is Shopify or a custom store better for tickets?
Shopify suits gear, merchandise and simple vouchers. Date-based tickets with seat limits usually need custom logic, which Shopify apps only partly cover. We compare both against your product list during discovery before recommending one. Ask us for specifics during the discovery call.
