Travel & Tourism Mobile App Development in India
Android and iOS apps for tour operators, resorts and travel brands: trip companions for guests, and field apps for guides and drivers.
This page covers mobile apps for travel businesses in India. That means apps your guests carry on a trip, and apps your own guides, drivers and property staff use on the ground. We build with Flutter or React Native, so one codebase serves Android and iOS.
Before building, ask who the app is for. A guest app earns its place only if guests use it during the trip, when they need the itinerary, a contact number or a pickup update. A staff app earns it by removing phone calls. Anything else is a website with a store icon.
What travel businesses need from a mobile app
Itineraries that work offline
Guests lose signal in the Himalayas, Western Ghats and desert camps. Day plans, vouchers, hotel addresses and emergency numbers must be stored on the phone and readable with no network.
Alerts at the right moment
A pickup time change or a weather delay is useful only if it reaches the guest immediately. Push notifications beat SMS here, with WhatsApp as a fallback for guests who have not installed the app.
Low-end Android support
Many domestic travellers and most drivers use budget phones with limited storage. The app must stay small, start quickly and avoid heavy maps or animations that stall.
A tool that drivers will actually use
A driver will not fill in a long form. Big buttons for trip started, guest picked up and trip ended, in Hindi or Marathi, are what get used.
What we build for travel mobile apps
Trip companion app for guests
Shows the day-wise plan, voucher QR codes, guide contact and a one-tap help button. Content is pulled from your booking system and cached for offline reading.
Guide and driver field app
Lists today's assignments, guest names, pickup points and a simple status update that appears on your operations screen. Photo upload covers vehicle condition and guest ID where needed.
Property and activity check-in
Resort or trek staff scan a guest's booking QR code to check in, record emergency contacts and log gear issued. It cuts the queue at the reception desk.
Feedback and referral prompts
A short rating screen at trip end, plus a share link for friends. Feedback goes to your team first so problems get fixed before they reach a public review.
What it costs
This anchor covers an MVP with a defined core flow, typically 10-12 weeks. Offline sync, maps, number of roles and any backend you do not yet have affect the fixed quote, given after a discovery call. Store fees are separate.
Questions we get asked
Do we need a guest app or is WhatsApp enough?
For most small operators WhatsApp is enough: send the itinerary PDF and live updates. A guest app makes sense when you have repeat travellers, offline needs in remote areas or a loyalty programme. Test with a staff app first, then decide.
How long does Play Store and App Store approval take?
Play Store review is usually quick for a new app, but it varies, and Apple review can ask for changes. We prepare listings, screenshots and privacy details, and submit for you. Plan a buffer in your launch date for review rounds.
Can the app track a vehicle's live location?
Yes, using the driver's phone GPS, shared only during an active trip. Drivers and guests should be told clearly and consent recorded. Battery use and background permissions differ by phone brand, so we test on cheap Android devices.
Will one codebase work on both Android and iPhone?
Yes. Flutter or React Native lets us ship one app to both stores with a shared codebase. A few device-specific features such as background location need separate handling per platform, and we flag those in the quote.
