Ecommerce Website Development for Fashion & Apparel
An online store for clothing and accessories that handles sizes, colours, COD risk and returns the way Indian fashion buyers actually shop.
This page covers fashion and apparel ecommerce website development: a store with catalogue, cart, checkout, payments and order management. It is for D2C labels, boutiques going online and manufacturers selling direct. We build on Shopify or WooCommerce, depending on what suits your team. Both platforms handle UPI and COD well.
Fashion is harder to sell online than most categories. Every product has size and colour variants, buyers want to touch the fabric, and returns eat margin. A store that ignores this looks fine and loses money. We design around the returns problem from the first sketch. Ask any agency how they handle size-wise stock before signing.
What a fashion store has to get right
Variants without chaos
One kurta in five sizes and four colours is twenty stock lines. The catalogue must show availability per size clearly and hide sold-out combinations without hiding the product.
COD with guardrails
Cash on delivery drives orders but also refusals. Options include an OTP or WhatsApp confirmation, a small advance for high-value orders and pin-code rules.
Returns that are policy, not argument
The store should state the return window, condition rules and exchange options plainly, and let the buyer start a return online. Clear rules reduce disputes.
GST-ready billing
Apparel GST rates can vary with price bands. The store should produce correct tax invoices and handle state-wise tax logic, with rate settings checked by your accountant.
What we build for fashion and apparel stores
Catalogue with size and colour logic
Variant selectors, per-size stock, size chart pop-ups and colour swatches that switch the photo. Bulk upload from a spreadsheet so a 300-piece collection is not typed by hand.
Checkout with UPI, cards and COD
Razorpay or a similar gateway for UPI and cards, plus COD with confirmation steps you choose. Failed-payment retry is built in.
Returns and exchange flow
Customers raise a return from their order page with a reason. Your team approves, books the pickup and refunds or issues store credit.
Shipping and invoice integration
Courier aggregator rate and tracking links, plus automatic GST invoices. Order status messages go out by email and WhatsApp.
What it costs
The price covers a standard store build with payments and SEO-ready structure. Catalogue size, custom design, courier integrations and migration from an old store change the quote.
Questions we get asked
Shopify or WooCommerce for a fashion store?
Shopify suits teams that want less maintenance and quick launch. WooCommerce suits those who want full control and lower platform fees. We compare both against your catalogue size, budget and team habits before recommending one.
How do you reduce COD returns on my fashion store?
We add order confirmation by OTP or WhatsApp, optional advance payment on costly orders and pin-code restrictions for areas with high refusal rates. These reduce returns but cannot remove them. We tune the rules with your data.
Can I move my existing products from Instagram or another platform?
Yes. If products are in a spreadsheet or another store, we import them in bulk. From Instagram, we need the data in sheet form, since photos and captions alone must be organised by hand. Expect to clean product titles and photos before the import.
Will the store show correct GST on invoices?
Yes, once tax rates are configured. Your accountant confirms the rates for each product band, and we set them up. The store then prints GST-compliant invoices with state-wise tax split. Rates change, so keep your accountant in the loop.
