Ecommerce Website Development for Political Campaigns
A small online shop for party merchandise such as flags, caps and badges, and a clear view of what an ecommerce build should not handle.
This page covers ecommerce website development for political campaigns: an online store selling merchandise such as caps, flags, scarves and badges. It does not cover donations or fundraising. Rules on political funding are specific, and you should take advice before collecting any money online. Fundraising stays outside this build. Keep the store small.
For most campaigns, a store is a minor need. Supporters like merchandise, but the volume is small and the season is short. Still, a simple store can save your team from collecting orders and cash over phone calls. Keep it small, and keep it separate from fundraising. We tell you early if a landing page will do.
What a campaign merchandise store needs
Simple catalogue, short season
Ten to thirty items with sizes for t-shirts and caps. The store does not need a big catalogue. It needs to be live and correct for a few weeks.
Payments with clean records
UPI and card payments through a gateway, with GST-ready invoices where they apply. Your accountant should confirm the tax treatment of merchandise sales.
Delivery to many small towns
Orders come from ward-level supporters in small places. Courier coverage and COD limits should be checked by pin code before you promise delivery.
Separation from donations
Do not mix a merchandise cart with contribution collection. Funding is regulated, and you must get the rules confirmed by your own adviser before accepting money.
What we build for a campaign store
Small merchandise catalogue
Products with sizes, photos and stock counts, editable by your media team. Bulk upload is available if you carry many items.
UPI-first checkout
Razorpay or a similar gateway with UPI, cards and optional COD. Order confirmation goes by SMS or WhatsApp with a clear receipt.
Bulk order form for local units
Ward and booth teams often order hundreds of caps. A bulk form records quantity, delivery address and contact, and issues a proforma for approval.
Order list for packing and dispatch
A printable list per courier batch, with address labels, so volunteers can pack and dispatch without errors.
What it costs
A small catalogue with payments is usually quoted nearer the standard build. Catalogue size, custom design and courier integration change the final figure.
Questions we get asked
Can I collect donations through the same store?
We advise against mixing them. Rules on political funding are specific and carry real penalties. Take advice from your own legal or election adviser first. We build merchandise checkout only, unless your adviser confirms a separate compliant setup.
Is it worth building a store just for a few weeks of merchandise?
Often not at full scale. If you expect under a few dozen orders, a landing page with WhatsApp ordering is cheaper. A store pays off when many supporters across wards want to order and pay online.
Can ward teams place bulk orders on credit?
We can build an approval step where a bulk order is recorded and a proforma issued. Credit terms are your decision and your accounts team must handle the follow-up. We do not recommend automated credit without controls.
Do I need GST on campaign merchandise?
That depends on your legal entity and turnover, so ask your accountant. We set up GST fields and invoices once the rules are confirmed. We do not give tax advice, only configure what your adviser specifies.
