Ecommerce Website Development for Temples, Ashrams and Trusts

An online store for religious trusts selling books, puja kits, prasad boxes, audio and handmade goods, with Indian payments, GST handling and careful packing and shipping.

This page covers online stores run by religious organisations: ashram bookshops, temple prasad and puja material, publication houses and goods made in community workshops. It does not cover donations, which belong on a giving page. It covers selling physical or digital items to a distant devotee. We treat it as a shop first and keep giving on its own page.

Selling from a religious institution brings its own care. Prasad and food items have shelf life and shipping limits. Books and audio are often a steady seller. Revenue must be recorded properly, and the trust should confirm tax treatment with its accountant. We build the store around these facts. Your accountant sees clean sales records instead of a mixed bank statement.

What religious trusts need from an online store

01

Food and prasad shipping

Sweets and prasad boxes spoil and leak. The store needs weight-based rates, serviceable-pincode checks and an honest delivery window shown at checkout.

02

Catalogue of books and media

Titles in several languages need clear categories, author or speaker pages and previews. Digital downloads such as audio or PDF discourses should be delivered after payment.

03

Separating sales from donations

A purchase and a gift are accounted differently. Checkout and reports should keep them apart so your accountant can reconcile without untangling them.

04

Festival-season peaks

Orders cluster around a few festivals, and packing teams are volunteers. Stock limits and cut-off dates for guaranteed delivery prevent disappointment.

What we build for a trust store

01

Prasad and puja kit ordering

Boxes with dated cut-offs, quantity limits and delivery regions. Orders can be bundled with a seva booking where your trust allows it.

02

Publications and audio shop

Book pages with language filters, sample pages and bundles. Audio and PDF items download after payment, and the link is tied to the purchaser.

03

Checkout with Indian payments

UPI, cards and net banking via Razorpay, cash on delivery where suitable, and GST invoices when applicable. Rates and applicability are set with your accountant.

04

Packing and dispatch panel

A list of orders to pack by date, address labels and a status update to the customer by email or WhatsApp. Simple enough for rotating volunteers to use.

When this is the wrong choice. If you sell a handful of items a month, a catalogue page with a WhatsApp order button is adequate. A full store makes sense only with steady volume and someone who owns packing and returns. Do not use a store to collect donations, a giving page is simpler.

What it costs

Ecommerce stores start at ₹75,000 (excl. GST)

The anchor covers a standard store with a catalogue, checkout and payments. Digital downloads, multilingual catalogues, perishable-item rules and courier integrations are quoted after a discovery call.

Questions we get asked

Can we ship prasad safely across India?

Only with limits. Dry sweets and packaged items travel better than fresh ones. We build the store to restrict items by pincode and weight, show delivery times honestly and capture an allergen or contents note. Your trust sets food safety and licensing rules and should confirm them with local authorities.

Should the store be on Shopify or custom-built?

For a normal catalogue with books and goods, Shopify is often quicker and cheaper to run. Custom is better if you need links to seva bookings, donor records or content access. We compare both against your volume and recommend honestly in the discovery call.

How do we keep sales separate from donations?

Products and gifts use different checkout flows and different report lines, with separate numbering where your accountant asks for it. Combined carts are possible but flagged in the records. Whether any sale or gift is taxable, or exempt, is for your chartered accountant to decide.

Can devotees abroad order from the store?

Possibly. International shipping adds duties, higher rates and restrictions on food, and payments from abroad may involve extra rules for charities. We can switch on selected countries for books only. Your adviser should confirm any FCRA or foreign-exchange obligations before you accept overseas payments.
