Mobile App Development for Restaurants and Food Delivery

Customer, restaurant and rider apps from one Flutter or React Native codebase, built for local delivery businesses and restaurant brands in India.

This page covers mobile app development for restaurants and food delivery businesses: ordering apps for a single brand, and multi-sided delivery platforms with customer, restaurant and rider apps. If you want an app guests install and reorder from, this is the relevant service. Both cases share the same checkout, order and payment foundations, so we scope them together before quoting.

We built Foodysh, a Nashik food delivery platform with customer, restaurant and rider apps plus an admin panel, so we know where these projects get hard. The customer app is the easy part. The real effort is in rider assignment, order status handling, restaurant acceptance timeouts and settling payments between the platform and each outlet. We apply the same lessons to a single-brand ordering app, which needs far fewer moving parts.

What food businesses need from a mobile app

01

Fast reorder on low-end phones

Repeat customers want their last order in two taps. The app must stay smooth on 3 GB Android phones and weak mobile data, which means light images and careful list handling.

02

A rider app that works on the road

Riders need clear pickup and drop details, one-tap navigation handoff, and battery-friendly location updates. Poor rider tools show up as late deliveries and support calls.

03

Restaurant-side acceptance

Outlets need loud new-order alerts, an accept or reject button, and prep time entry. If an outlet does not respond, the system needs a defined fallback instead of silence.

04

Payments that reconcile

UPI, cards and cash on delivery each settle differently. Owners need clean records of what the customer paid, what the outlet is owed and what the rider collected in cash.

What we build in a food delivery app

01

Customer app

Menu browsing, cart, address with map pin, coupons, UPI and COD checkout, order tracking and past orders. Marathi, Hindi and English can be offered in the same app.

02

Restaurant and rider apps

The restaurant app handles orders, item availability and payouts view. The rider app covers job offers, status steps, delivery proof and cash collected.

03

Admin panel

Zone and delivery charge settings, restaurant onboarding, commission rules, manual order reassignment and refund handling from one place.

04

Store release support

We prepare Play Store and App Store listings and handle review feedback, since food apps are asked for clear privacy and account deletion details.

When this is the wrong choice. If you run one restaurant with modest online demand, a branded app is rarely worth the cost against a website with WhatsApp ordering. Install friction is real, and you must market the app yourself to get downloads.

What it costs

Mobile app starts at ₹2,00,000 (excl. GST)

A single-brand ordering app sits near that anchor. A three-app delivery platform with live tracking is a larger scope, and is quoted after a discovery call. An MVP typically takes 10 to 12 weeks.

Questions we get asked

Do I need all three apps, customer, restaurant and rider?

Only if you run a marketplace with several outlets and your own riders. A single restaurant brand can start with a customer app and a simple order screen for the kitchen. We usually recommend launching lean and adding the rider app once volume justifies it.

Can I compete with large delivery apps in my town?

Not on discounts or reach. Local platforms win on things big apps handle poorly: smaller delivery zones, local cuisines, home kitchens, faster support and lower commissions for outlets. Define that edge before you invest in the build.

How does live rider tracking work and what does it cost to run?

The rider app sends location updates and the customer app shows them on a map. Map and location services usually carry usage-based charges that grow with order volume. We list these running costs in the quote so you can budget them.

Can the app be used in Marathi or Hindi?

Yes. Hindi, Marathi and English are handled in-house, with menus and notifications in the language your customers use. Other Indian scripts can be added with proper font testing and review by a native speaker from your side.
